Manchester United Treble-winner David Beckham was honoured with the Legend of Football Award at the HMV Football Extravaganza on Tuesday night, and was joined by former team-mates Ryan Giggs and Nicky Butt.
Celebrating its 20th year, the event raises funds for music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins, having generated nearly £7million for the charity to date, enabling them to provide over 200,000 music therapy sessions for some of the UK’s most isolated and vulnerable people.
Beckham recently saw the great work done by the charity for himself and the tribute evening for the 40-year-old raised an incredible £541,000. David received his award from his good friend Giggs, who was last year’s recipient of the accolade. David was joined on the night by his mum, dad and sister, as well as a host of football personalities including Giggs, Butt, Sol Campbell, Alex McLeish, Graeme Souness and Glenn Hoddle.
Led by hosts Geoff Shreeves and Richard Keys, guests heard from Judith Suadoni, who has been bringing her five-year-old autistic son David to music therapy sessions at Nordoff Robbins for 18 months, changing his life for the better.

Beckham was delighted to receive the award and lend his support to the charity. "I’m incredibly honoured to have received this. When you look at the list of the previous recipients, I feel very fortunate to join them," he said. "More importantly, the night has been about recognising the fantastic work that Nordoff Robbins does and raising funds for their vital work. I have seen over the years the positivity that sport can bring to children with special needs so, to come to Nordoff Robbins to learn a little more about how music can do that for people, it’s something that is so touching when you see it.
"It was an emotional night," he added in an interview with ManUtd.com. "I had a lot of family and friends and people I’d played with who have been part of my career there and it was all for such a good cause. Nordoff Robbins are such a great charity and the event helped raise a lot of money and awareness which is very important."
Previous recipients of the Legend of Football Award, which recognises outstanding achievement in the world of football and overall contribution to the game, include Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Sir Alex Ferguson, Teddy Sheringham, Eric Cantona, Pele and Giggs.
